World Overview
World Overview
Section titled “World Overview”Cormyr lost its king two years ago.
King Azoun IV and the red dragon Nalavarauthatoryl killed each other during the War of the Seven Scourges. Crown Princess Tanalasta also died in the war, and the throne now belongs to a child. Princess Alusair serves as Steel Regent: strong enough to hold a kingdom together by force of will, but stuck rebuilding institutions that were already damaged before the war ended.
The kingdom is still standing. It is not fully recovering.
What Reconstruction Looks Like
Section titled “What Reconstruction Looks Like”- A third of the War Wizards died in the war.
- Farmland in the east was burned out or blighted.
- Major roads and bridges were damaged or destroyed.
- The Crown, nobility, and magical institutions are all overworked.
- Sembian merchants have stepped into the gap with grain, credit, and freight.
None of that is automatically sinister. It does mean power is moving through the kingdom in new ways, and not all of those ways are visible.
Why This Campaign Starts on the Roads
Section titled “Why This Campaign Starts on the Roads”Trade routes are the kingdom’s nervous system.
If freight can move, towns eat. Garrisons get paid. Temples receive supplies. Merchants stay solvent. If freight cannot move, the failure is never local for long.
That is why a properly filed trade license for a road that no longer exists is not merely a clerical oddity. It suggests that somebody is making use of broken infrastructure, institutional confusion, or both.
The Known Pressure Points
Section titled “The Known Pressure Points”Several problems are already visible from the start:
- The Carters’ Guild is weakening.
- Sembian-backed logistics operations are expanding.
- The churches of Helm and Mystra still distrust each other.
- Reports of nightmares and crop failures are spreading in the east.
- Patrols near the Stonelands have found tracks they cannot identify.
These may be connected. They may not. Either way, they are shaping the kingdom the party now has to live in.
